INNOVATION IN TEACHER EDUCATION AWARD |

Guidelines |
|
Teacher
education institutions in the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher
Educators states may nominate education programs for the SRATE Innovation in Teacher Education Award. The program chosen for each state
will receive recognition at the SRATE Annual Conference. Recipients will be
expected to present their programs at the conference. |

|
The
Innovation in Teacher Education Award was established to recognize and honor
outstanding teacher education programs that have developed innovative
approaches to teacher preparation. |
|
|
|
Awards
will be given to innovative teacher education programs in areas such as (but
not limited to): |
|
|
|
-recruiting academically talented students |
|
-recruiting academically talented minority
students |
|
-field experiences |
|
-collaboration with local schools, business and
industry |
|
-applying teacher effectiveness and/ or school
effectiveness research |
|
-teacher education curriculum |
|
-attracting qualified college graduates to
education |
|
-faculty development |
|
-mentoring programs |
|
|
|
Programs
developed and administered by institutions of higher education and/or local
education agencies that reflect a high degree of innovation will be
considered. Programs must have clearly stated goals directed at the
establishment of identifiable teacher behaviors. Applications must provide
data to demonstrate that the goals were achieved after program
implementation. In addition, the program should be based on theoretically
sound principles, which can be adapted by other teacher education programs. |

Application
must include a description of the program and its ability to
have a positive impact on teacher education (300-500 words). Supporting
documents maybe included but will not be returned. |

|
Three
(3) copies of the program application, with a cover sheet
attached to each set of application materials should be sent to: |
